Many people want to know how to speed up the Internet from the settings, just as they also want to know the problem of the phone’s memory being full even though it is empty.
Reasons for slow internet
Internet speed can be affected by location, time of day, or even the pressure on your network, whether it’s cellular or Wi-Fi. Having too many apps open in the background can also affect your internet speed.
Weak network in the area you are in. You can check your network strength by looking at the signal bars displayed at the top left of the screen.
If you don’t see any signal bar, you are in an area with no coverage and will have difficulty connecting to the internet. This can be solved by moving to another location.
Network congestion. Wi-Fi and mobile networks are faster when there are fewer people on your network, so internet speeds will be slower if there are a lot of devices connected to it.
Having too many apps and tabs open. Tabs and apps running in the background consume a lot of mobile data, which slows down the network speed.
Cache is full. Your browser stores data in a cache so it can load websites you visit frequently quickly.
Although this speeds up your internet browsing, a full cache can slow down your phone.
It could also be that your network settings need to be reset. Your phone’s network settings might be wrong, causing your internet to slow down.
Which is faster 4G or LTE?
4G speeds (up to 1,000Mbps) are much faster than LTE speeds on mobile. If your phone supports 4G (or even 5G), but seems to be using an LTE, 3G, or 2G connection, this could be the reason your internet is slow.
Try resetting your network settings to help speed up your internet connections.
If you are using 4G in an area with network congestion, it may slow down your data speed significantly. In this case, try changing the network mode to a less congested type such as 3G.
1. Use a fast DNS service
If you have a phone running Android 9 or later, you can manually change its DNS settings to speed up the Internet from the settings:
Go to Settings > Connection & Sharing > Private DNS > Private DNS provider hostname.
Then copy and paste the DNS address of the cloud flare service into the empty box that will appear, which is 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com > click Save.
You can also try Google DNS which is dns.google.com
Also try quad9 DNS which is dns.quad9.net
Note If you can’t find the DNS option, you can type DNS in the search bar of the Settings app.
2. Use an app to change DNS
If you have a phone running Android 8 or lower, you may not be able to change DNS from Settings, but you can use an app to do so.
There are many DNS changer apps available on Play Store for Android devices like 1.1.1.1: Faster & Safer Internet AppInstall the application on your mobile device, open it and follow the instructions that will appear.
3. Restart your phone.
A reboot can solve more problems than you think and help speed up the internet from the settings. It may also make your 4G or 5G connection faster. I do this by pressing and holding the power button until the power options menu appears and then choosing to power off or restart.
4. Check your network signal strength.
Weak signals can greatly affect your internet speed. To check your signal strength, look at your signal bars or you can also perform a Internet speed test.
If the signal is weak, consider moving to a different location or moving closer to a window where the signal is stronger.
5. Clear cache regularly
Cached data can build up over time and slow down your internet speed. To increase your internet speed, clear your app and browser cache regularly.
You can do this by going to Settings > Apps > Manage Apps > Select an app > Clear Data > Clear Cache. Repeat for the rest of the apps.
Additionally, you can clear your browser cache through its settings and then find the Clear Browsing Data option.
To do this on Chrome, open it > click on the three dots > History > Clear browsing data > Set the time range to All time > Clear browsing data. Also, close open browser tabs.
6. Change APN settings and reset network settings
APN settings are usually set automatically once the SIM card is inserted, but in rare cases they may be set incorrectly, affecting your internet speed. You can fix this and speed up the internet from the settings by resetting the APN settings.
You can do this by going to Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > select the SIM card that is experiencing slow internet > Access Point Names > tap the + sign to enter the correct APN data.
Then contact your carrier or visit their website to get the correct APN settings.
Also try resetting your network settings which will return your network settings to the way they were when you first bought the phone. However, you will lose your Wi-Fi password.
Go to Settings > Connections & sharing > Reset WiFi, mobile networks & Bluetooth > Reset settings > Reset settings > OK.
7. Speed up the Internet from the settings by updating the applications and the phone system
Updates improve phone performance and fix app and system issues. Updates may include improvements that can boost internet speed and overall phone performance. So make sure to update your apps and phone system regularly to take advantage of this.
To check for updates go to Settings > About phone > from the top of the screen tap on MIUI version > wait for your phone to finish searching for updates.
8. Disable automatic application updating
Although updating apps regularly is essential, turning on the auto-update feature for apps can slow down your internet speed, especially if you are using a limited data package.
So consider disabling the auto-update feature or setting it to update only when connected to Wi-Fi. Do this by going to the Play Store > tap on your profile picture at the top left of the screen > Settings > Network preferences > Auto-update apps and choose the option that suits you.
9. Use a fast and secure browser.
Using a fast and secure browser can help speed up your internet connection. Popular browsers like Chrome and Firefox receive regular updates to improve performance. Try different browsers to find the one that best suits your needs and offers the best internet speed.
10. Turn on data saving on your internet browser.
Some browsers have a data saving/compression feature that reduces the amount of data needed to load pages, speeds up the Internet from the settings, and of course saves data. One of the browsers that provides this is Opera mini.
11. Disable image loading
Disabling image loading in your browser settings can speed up your internet speeds, especially for sites with long text. You can choose to load images manually or disable them completely for a faster browsing experience.
12. Close background applications
Background apps consume phone data and processor power, which can affect your internet speed. So close or disable background apps. You can do this by clicking on the square icon at the bottom of the screen to show you all open apps. To close one of them, drag it up.
Or after you know the open applications, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > tap on the application you want to close > Force Stop > OK.
13. Network settings
Go to Settings > SIM & mobile networks > Select the SIM card that is experiencing slow internet > Mobile networks > Turn off “Automatically select network” > Select your carrier. Then restart your phone.
For this to work, choose the 4G or LTE network by following the previous steps, but this time choose the preferred network type instead of mobile networks > choose 2G/3G/4G Automatic.
14. Use Lite Apps
Many technology companies that develop different applications create new versions of their applications called “Lite”, such as “Facebook Lite” and “Messenger Lite”, and these versions are considered completely similar to the original versions.
However, it does not consume much of the Internet package and works quickly on slow networks. Therefore, you can try using it instead of the original versions if available.
15. Turn Airplane Mode on and off
This can speed up the internet from the settings. The phone searches for available mobile networks in your area and connects to the best network. But sometimes it fails.
You can solve this by turning on Airplane mode, which will disable all connections on your phone and turning it off will reconnect the phone to Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and the mobile network, resulting in an automatic connection to the best available tower.
You can activate this mode by pulling down the notification bar, then selecting Airplane mode, waiting for about 20 seconds, then turning it off.
16. Find out which apps consume the most data
Even when you are not using data consuming apps they will still use your internet which will slow down your internet.
You can find apps that are draining your data by going to Settings > Connections & sharing > Data usage. This will then show you each app’s data usage. The apps at the top of the list are those that are consuming the most data.
You can prevent an app from using mobile data by unchecking it, or prevent it from using wi-fi by unchecking it, or you can force stop the app to help speed up the internet from the settings.
When you’re online you can stop using these apps. But many of them run in the background even when you’re not actively using them.
17. Restrict background data usage
Now that you know which apps are draining data, you can prevent them from running in the background — and consuming your phone’s data and battery power — by restricting the background data usage of these apps.
Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps > tap on the name of one of those apps > Data usage > turn off the switch next to Background data usage.
Please be aware that some apps, such as social media and video streaming apps like YouTube and TikTok, consume a large amount of data in the background. To save data and speed up the Internet from the settings, restrict background data usage for these apps as well.
18. Turn on data saving mode
Most Android phones have a data saving mode that when turned on prevents background apps from using cellular data. Turning on data saving can help reduce data consumption, which can speed up the internet from the settings.
You can turn it on by going to Settings > Dual SIM & Cellular > Data Saver > turn on the toggle.
19. Enter reader mode in your internet browser.
Many web browsers have a reader mode to make reading websites easier. Enabling this mode can improve the loading speed of websites.
To activate this mode on the Chrome browser, follow the following: Open the Chrome browser > Click on the three dots at the top left of the screen > Settings > Ease of use > Turn on the switch next to the Simplified view of web pages option.
Now when you open an article that supports Reader Mode, a bar will appear at the top of the screen asking if you want to view the simplified page? Click View.
20. Install ad blocker
Ad blockers improve your online experience by preventing annoying ads from appearing, which in turn will make websites load faster. There are web browsers that automatically block ads, such as Avast Secure Browser.
21. Connect to WiFi
If your data plan is always very slow, try using Wi-Fi instead. You may find that Wi-Fi speeds are slow on your phone as well, but this is usually a problem with the Wi-Fi network itself, not your phone.
Other ways to increase the internet speed on your phone
If the previous methods do not work for you, try a factory reset, which will reset your phone and return it to the state it was in when you first bought it and erase all data stored on it, such as photos and contacts. Therefore, you may need to Create a backup To avoid this.
